This weekly column began Nov. 4 to answer questions submitted via the K-State Zimbra and InfoTech Tuesday websites, update the K-State community with new project information, and detail cool Zimbra features.

Since K-State e-mail will be hosted at Zimbra, how will this affect data ownership and confidentiality?

While Zimbra hosts the e-mail service, K-State still “owns” the data. For example, think of our K-State mail as an embassy in a foreign country, with Zimbra being that foreign country. The embassy and its grounds belong to us, not the country it resides in.

Data ownership and confidentiality is one of the many reasons Zimbra was selected. All K-State e-mail and associated eID policies and procedures apply when K-State switches to Zimbra.
